The offseason in the PWHL continues, but things are anything but quiet as teams continue signing players, inviting free agents to training camps and preparing for the season that lies ahead.
Recent Player Signings
On July 14 (today), the Ottawa Charge announced the signing of three draft picks to one-year contracts: Anna Shokhina, Sanni Ahola and Fanuza Kadirova. Shokhina & Kadirova are the first Russian players to sign in the league, while Ahola is the first Finnish goaltender to do so. All three are 25+ with experience at the national team level and will undoubtedly be great additions to the team.
Also today, the Boston Fleet announced that they’ve re-signed forward Shay Maloney to a two-year extension.
Last week, the Charge also announced multiple signings, including forward Sarah Wozniewicz and the re-signing of defender Stephanie Markowski, both to one-year deals. Goaltender Logan Angers, defenders Jessica Adolfsson & Sam Isbell and forward Anna Meixner all signed one-year extensions, too.
Elsewhere, PWHL Vancouver signed forward Brooke McQuigge to a one-year contract, after acquiring her rights through the expansion draft.
PWHL Seattle signed a one-year deal with defender Anna Wilgren, whose rights were also acquired during the expansion draft. Beloved Toronto Sceptres goaltender Carly (CJ) Jackson also signed a one-year deal with PWHL Seattle.
Other big news last week came when New York Sirens forward Sarah Fillier signed a two-year extension to stay in New York; defender Ally Simpson did the same as well.
